Silverios in the Mountains- Mammoth and Tahoe

Silverios in the Mountains, Winter 2010

We have been blessed with the opportunity to stay in Mammoth and then traveled to Tahoe, Northern Cali to enjoy the mountains, and snowboard. We stayed with Auntie Nicole in Tahoe, and also had the chance to visit with friends Brian West, Leslie, and Steve. Riding together is so much fun, and Nicole arranged baby sitters for Olivia which was awesome. Olivia made friends with a doggie named Spike, and with Nicole’s dog Judah. Dogs are her all time favorite creature right now! Olivia did go down the mountain via snowboard on Daddy’s back, and LOVED the ride! Yes! A snowbird in the making. And we took a day to snowshoe while in Tahoe, which was not my favorite sport- but beautiful as the trees and streams were all covered in blankets of snow. The snow we had both in Mammoth and Tahoe was so amazing! Bri rode 12 days and I got in 4. Pretty amazing way to start the season!!

Restore,Relax, and Recap of our Honduras adventure. Time in the Mountains brought us reflection...

While away in Mammoth and Tahoe, we had a chance to further process the experience that we just had in Tegus, Honduras---

Restoring. Well, sore legs from 4 days of powder snow and first season of riding is pretty much the opposite of restoration for the body! The fresh air did clear up our lungs though from the hard city air that we had gotten used to, and the mountains and beautiful nature was a restoration to the soul as well.

Relax- Olivia has been adjusting to many different locations since we began our adventure. Since July, we have visited, stayed, and lived in about 10 different locations! Talk about a versatile baby! It is, however, not relaxing to transition Olivia into all the different living arrangements. I can say that she did enjoy the snow, and mountains, and thus adjusted rather well giving us relaxation time. And she was even a trooper during our near 20 hours total in the car driving to and from Mammoth, Tahoe, and back. Daddy was an excellent driver, and the secret for Livi was her Papa’s portable DVD player stocked with Baby Einstein, and a treat of Goldfish crackers to munch away at! The charm for transitions- Music and nursing.

Recap. We still have much to talk about with each other and with you all when it comes to our experience. Words are not enough, and having natural conversations about the many topics, visions, and realities we encountered takes time and effort. I can say that this has all been an awesome soul changing “life experience” and that I would not trade it for anything. I am tired, and praying for a place we can call “home” again, realizing that Honduras had been home to us and now home is where ever we lay our heads.

Honduras was for us the place that God had called us for several reasons. What He accomplished through us while we were there--- well that work is the Lord’s and we may not see the eternal fruits that His seeds have planted until we are with Him.

I know that the relationships that we created while in Honduras were our greatest moments. The people that loved us and whom we love. The time that we spent with children, praying over the land, and investing in people’s lives- that is what God asked of us. That is what the blessing is. We are blessed with relationships. Things are just things, but relationships are eternal. And relationships can exist anywhere- so that is what drives us and carries us onto where ever we may go. It is not the place, but the destination. Not the location but the journey to get there. You don’t see what you have until it is behind you, and you are moving forward with the wind in your hair…

More thoughts will come to me, I’m sure. But for now, we miss those of you we are not with right now, and we embrace those who we are sharing time with in the moment. Enjoy your moments. Each and every one!
Love Vic
